Prof. Zhiyong Gu was a technical session co-chair at the 2007 annual meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) The 2007 AIChE conference took place between Nov 4 - Nov 9 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. More than 4000 engineers and scientists attended the conference to learn about "the most recent innovations, trends and concerns in the field today and identify new issues and direction for the future" of Chemical Engineering.
There were more than 16 Topical conferences comprising 700 technical sessions with the overall theme "on the growth areas that matter most: Energy, Biotechnology, Nanoscale Science and Engineering, and Environmental/Sustainability." Dr. Gu, a faculty member at the UML Chemical Engineering Department made oral presentations at three of the AIChE Topical Conferences. His presentations focused on new and emerging technologies, namely:
- Nanowire self-assembly
- Nanofluids
- Drying & swelling of block co-polymers
Dr. Gu co-chaired three of the 700 technical sessions. He served as the chair, and co-chair in the "Particle Synthesis and Stabilization" subject areas (#191, #257, & #314). In addition, he is the director of the Gu Research Group at UMass Lowell.
